
After absentee ballots were counted this evening, it has been determined that Republican John Spanbauer won a seat on the Niagara Falls City Council, over his Democrat challenger Alicia Kenyon by only a few dozen votes.
For the first time in decades, the heavily Democrat-enrolled City will have a Republican-controlled legislature. Mayor-elect Robert Restaino, a fiscally conservative Democrat, was backed by the Niagara County Republican Committee and its Chairman Rich Andres.
It’s widely expected that Niagara Falls Councilman Chris Voccio’s election as City Council President is imminent. Voccio is known to hold libertarian political views.
