According to the Red Cross, Assemblyman Santabarbara and this year’s honorees are recognized for their “unwavering support of our mission to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies.”  “We are truly grateful for your dedication and commitment to ensuring that New York State provides the support necessary to maintain the vital services the Red Cross provides in our communities, and we are honored to be able to count you among our strongest supporters.”

The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. More than 95 percent of Red Cross workers are volunteers.

“I’m honored to receive this prestigious award from the Red Cross, and I’m proud to support an amazing organization that saves lives every single day,” said Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara.

Santabarbara added, “I’m especially grateful to the Northeastern New York Chapter for the care they provided in the wake of the Schoharie County limousine crash, which killed 20 people. The Red Cross cared for the families by providing grief counseling and resources. On the anniversary of the accident, they brought blankets and therapy dogs to the vigil to help support the family and friends of the victims.”
