A short take on today’s news

BY JOE GENCO

–You might think the mess in Flint, Mich. is over, but not for the people who live there, who still can’t drink the water. At least they are still prosecuting the decisionmakers. http://www.freep.com/…/michigan-ag-bill-schuette-…/95624818/

–I always read the Buffalo News obits so it was that I saw Joey Godwin died. He was a kind soul. I had a tiff with him in 8th grade or so. It was entirely my fault. We talked about it at some point 20 years ago. He forgave me. Rest in peace. Another member of the Alden Class of 1982 gone too soon. http://buffalonews.com/2016/12/18/francis-joey-godwin/

–There were 3 terror attacks Monday. None seemed real but they most assuredly are. These are scary times. http://www.cnn.com/…/turkey-ambassador-killing-w…/index.html

–The Electoral College has spoken and, surprise, 7 voters broke ranks with their pledged support of Hillary. Just 2 faithless electors turned away from Trump. http://www.npr.org/…/donald-trump-poised-to-secure-electora…

–A couple with a son who is an Alt Right leader are being forced to sell their building in Whitefish, Mont. because they have become the target of protests. http://www.dailyinterlake.com/…/article_bc57ba34-c4c3-11e6-…

–Rus Thompson is scheduled for trial on a charge of voter fraud in January, according to Alan Bedenko. The Tea Party enthusiast was the subject of an article I linked to the other day from Matt Ricchiazzi which strangely omitted that fact. http://www.dailypublic.com/…/rus-thompson-malicious-or-stup…

–A woman with Stage IV cancer auditioned for and taped multiple episodes of Jeopardy!, donating her winnings to research. Unfortunately, she died before the episode aired. Live every day. http://www.wkbw.com/…/jeopardy-contestant-who-died-before-s…

–I’ve seen “needle ice” numerous times in the Adirondacks, when groundwater freezes and makes needle-like structures, I just never knew it was called that. http://www.sfgate.com/…/needle-ice-freezing-temperatures-Si…

–Boyd Curiosity: Do pandas eat meat? Not unless they can catch it. Mostly they eat bamboo shoots.

–If you thought gun sales were going to decline because we were “safe” with Trump, think again, liberals have tuned in, aimed tight and are firing away. Herbal tea, yoga and guns. What a great mix. http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-38297345

–Ezekiel Elliott, scored a touchdown, jumped in a Salvation Army Kettle, and caused a huge increase in donations. http://www.foxnews.com/…/salvation-army-sees-uptick-in-dona…

–Deep thought from Ben: “I don’t know if I actually like math, or if I just want to live in a world where everything can be perfectly explained all the time.”

–Former Sabre Tim Kennedy, bought out years ago when he fought the team in salary arbitration and won, has returned to the fold with the Rochester Americans. I wonder if he regretted not taking Darcy Regier’s offer all those years ago. http://www.wgrz.com/…/tim-kennedy-returns-to-sabr…/373785924

–Matthew Fairburn bought a $7 ticket on Stubhub and watched the Bills from the upper deck. Been there, felt that, right through my numb bones. http://www.newyorkupstate.com/…/i_bought_a_7_ticket_to_see_…

–Sal Capaccio gives us arrow up, arrow down on the Bills. Boy the Browns are bad. Now let’s see what the Dolphins bring. http://www.wgr550.com/CAPACCIO-Bills-Browns-Arrow-…/22965452

–Here’s a thought for those blow-up-the-Bills skeptics. The offense, with Tyrod at the helm, is third in the league in touchdowns scored this season. FIX THE DEFENSE! http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats…
