A short take on today’s news

BY JOE GENCO

–“I need to be able to talk about it and have someone talk back to me.” Christina Abt finishes climbing her Mount Everest — 52 interviews in her 65th year, ending with her own darn 10 questions. No matter what you think, you can do it. She did. http://christinaabt.com/64-and-more-vol-47-5-the-final-int…/

–I didn’t make it to Snow Roll, but there’s another chance January 28. Let’s do it! http://www.wkbw.com/…/dozens-out-for-the-first-snow-roll-of…

–Wow, check out this whiny pissant’s takedown of President Elect, as shared by David Ivancic. Please, give him a chance. Oh and Ivancic, move to Canada already, for the good of us all. Alex is waiting! Merry Christmas. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/…/an-open-letter-to-mr-trum_b…

–When you think about dirty election tricks, one of the scummiest was the FBI’s timing of its announcement that thousands of Hillary Clinton e-mails had been found cached on Anthony Weiner’s laptop. Huma Abedin now reports she never received a warrant. Interesting. Release of politically damaging details obtained without a warrant means the FBI was, indeed, acting politically. http://nypost.com/…/huma-says-she-never-received-fbi-warra…/

–The “Bias on the Bench” series from Florida is bringing legislative action. The most effective proposal I see: Make an annual report reflecting their sentencing patterns available to judges. That way, a jurist who didn’t know they might have racist patterns will have a chance to be aware. http://projects.heraldtribune.com/bias/initial-reaction/…

Bob Confer teaches about the cycles of the turkey population, which was way down, most likely because of disease, but appears to have recovered. http://bobconfer.blogspot.com/…/exploring-niagara-frontier-…

–What’s Sunday morning without a Tiny Desk concert. Classical guitar from Derek Griper. http://www.npr.org/…/505268…/derek-gripper-tiny-desk-concert

–Did Delaware North’s predecessor kill a newspaper reporter in 1976? It sure looks that way, though only the hitman was convicted. http://artvoice.com/…/delaware-north-involved-death-don-b…/…

–Boyd Curiosity: What does it mean when the Brit calls you “longheaded”? That you are witty, off course.

–If you are interested in some of the secrets of the Freemasons, here is a good accounting filled with Scottish detail. http://www.bbc.com/…/20161209-secret-history-of-the-freemas…

–Is there really a link between wackadoos and the full moon? Not according to this analysis. http://www.bbc.com/…/20161215-does-the-moon-make-us-act-wei…

–When I saw the tease “Bobcat takes selfie above Golden Gate Bridge” I expected Bobcat Goldthwaite, not this beautiful cat. http://www.npr.org/…/505268…/derek-gripper-tiny-desk-concert

–Interesting to look back on Doug Whaley’s Bills draft, 2014. He got one decent starter, Ross Cockrell, whom we saw for the Steelers last week, as will as a passable linebacker, Preston Brown, and a mid-rate corner, Ross Cockrell, a back up tackle in Cyrus Kouandjio and and injury-prone receiver for whom he overpaid, Sammy Watkins. I’d give it a D.

–Pat Macafee is a punter. A very generous punter. In fact, for Christmas, the Indianapolis Colts player paid the electric bills of 115 people facing shutoff. Huzzah. He’s making $2.5 million this year. At $450 per bill, that means he spent $51,750. That’s just about 2% of his salary. Hey you making $80,000. Go spend $1,600 helping a random poor person. http://www.espn.com/…/pat-mcafee-shows-christmas-spirit-by-…

–I don’t watch much basketball, but Canisius beat UB Saturday. I think this is where two ships passed in the night. The Bulls never should have let Reggie Witherspoon go. Germaine Crumpton scored 30 for the Griffs. The last college player to do that in the arena downtown? Steph Curry in 2007. http://wivb.com/…/witherspoon-gets-win-over-former-squad-b…/

–I predict a Bills win today, a loss next week and then a win over the Dolphins to ensure they don’t make the playoffs. At least one Browns writer predicts a Cleveland win. I wouldn’t mind that if it means bye bye Rex, hello Cardale. http://www.thedailynewsonline.com/…/enemy-territory-browns-…

–The Sabres lost in a shootout yawner. http://www.wkbw.com/…/5-observations-hurricanes-top-sabres-…
