A website of unknown origins called the “City Observatory” was just created a couple days ago and it almost immediately released a report this week that the local Buffalo media picked up on proclaiming a jobs and millennial population boom since 2000 in Buffalo – no questions asked/no research performed to confirm accuracy. http://www.golocalpdx.com/news/new-research-and-think-tank-website-city-observatory-launches-in-portland.
The claims are completely contradicted by readily available census data which shows that Buffalo has lost 33,000 people since 2000 and approximately 10,000 of those who left were between 18-65 years old. Since 2010 the census data shows an approximate 1% loss of population in Buffalo with more population and job losses forecasted for 2014. http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/36/3611000.html
The article as well reported great gains in the degreed population in Buffalo when in fact the 2013 census data shows only 23% of college age adults have a four year degree here- one of the lowest in the country. The census data as well showed that the city has over 30% of its population living below the poverty limit – one of the highest rates in the country. http://censusviewer.com/city/NY/Buffalo
The Buffalo News yesterday further contradicts the reports “facts”. Yesterday the Buffalo News reported “ The region had 8,600 fewer people who were employed during September 2014, down by 1.6% from last year”. Yes that is correct “Booming Buffalo” as per the Buffalo News has 1.6% fewer people employed today when compared to just 1 year earlier! http://www.buffalonews.com/business/local-jobless-rate-falls-to-57-amid-slow-hiring-shrinking-labor-pool-20141021
The same Buffalo News article goes on to say “The regions jobs growth lags well behind the growth rates both statewide and nationally”. Additionally the Buffalo News reported that over 17,000 workers dropped out of the labor force in the past 12 months here – a loss of 3 percent and a devastating 31,300 dropped out over the last 6 years. The number of people employed in Buffalo-Niagara currently is at its lowest point in at least 24 years” as per the attached BN article.
It seems people and reporters are afraid to speak up and challenge Cuomo and his claimed accomplishments and instead seek to please our great leader. It is well known that Cuomo is vindictive. He is known for the following quote in regards to those who defend life in the womb and who defend our constitutional rights: “Who are they? Are they these extreme conservatives who are right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay? Is that who they are? Because if that’s who they are and they’re the extreme conservatives, they have no place in the state of New York, because that’s not who New Yorkers are.
At what point do people and reporters set aside their fears of retribution and tell the emperor that he has no clothes?
