Lisa Vitello misses key FOIL deadline, raising eyebrows

The Chronicle filed three separate requests for information with the Niagara Falls City Clerk’s Office on Wednesday, January 2nd, largely related to Mayoral candidate and Community Development Director Seth Piccarillo — a key figure in the administration of outgoing Mayor Paul Dyster.

City Clerk Lisa Vitello has missed a key deadline under the Freedom of Information Act.  Vitello had five days within which to send a letter of receipt of the requests and information detailing her office’s efforts to collect the information.

It is unclear why Vitello would fail to comply with such an easy deadline with which to comply. Some speculate that she may be dragging her feet intentionally to delay the process — or, worse yet, to circumvent the Law’s effects.

The requests for information were as follows:

Vitello is the sister of City Judge Diane Vitello, and a close friend and campaign staffer of former Councilwoman Kristen Grandinetti — both close Dyster allies.  Clerk Vitello is the sister-in-law of Dyster’s campaign manager, Craig Touma, the cousin of City Council Chairman Andrew Touma.

If you are an employee of the City of Niagara Falls with information regarding the City’s failure to comply with the Freedom of Information Act, or any other law, know that the Chronicle commits to shielding the identity of all of our sources.
