Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 27-year-old Alexander Brewer of Cheektowaga was virtually arraigned this morning before State Supreme Court Justice John L. Michalski on a nine-count indictment charging him with the following offenses:
- Two counts of Assault in the First Degree, Class “B” felonies
- Four counts of Aggravated Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree, Class “C” felonies
- One count of Strangulation in the Second Degree, a Class “D” felony
- Two counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, Class “D” felonies
It is alleged that on during the late evening hours of October 6, 2020 and into the early morning hours of October 7, 2020, the defendant engaged in sexual conduct with a female victim and subjected her to sexual contact by forcible compulsion at a location in the Town of Cheektowaga. The defendant is accused of strangling the victim, which caused her to lose consciousness. It is further alleged that the defendant engaged in sexual conduct with the victim and subjected her to sexual contact while she was incapable of consent by being physically helpless. His alleged actions caused serious physical injuries to the victim, which required hospitalization at ECMC.
Brewer was remanded without bail. A return court date has not been scheduled at this time.
If convicted on all charges, Brewer faces up to 32 years in prison.
DA Flynn commends Detectives Michael Hockwater and Terry Griffin of the Cheektowaga Police Department for their work in the investigation.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Nathanael C. Kapperman of the DA’s Special Victims Bureau.
As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
