Buffalo Police officer Karl Schultz shot Willie Henley, a 60 year old homeless man, on Saturday afternoon on Genesee Street just blocks from downtown. Henley was shot in the abdomen and is in stable condition at Erie County Medical Center.
But that wasn’t the first time that Schultz shot and critically injured someone on duty.
Schultz also paralyzed a 17-year-old in 2012 — Wilson Morales — after firing multiple shots. The City was sued and Morales received a $4.5 million judgement. Schultz has been investigated frequently by Internal Affairs in the past five years on various misconduct allegations.
Since joining the department in 2008, Schultz has been investigated on excessive use of force complaints eight times. Of the 17 times that he’s been investigated by Internal Affairs, there was insufficient evidence to sustain the allegation in ten circumstances. In three cases he received verbal disciple from superiors.
At the time of the shooting, the officer had three pending complaints against him — from December of last year, in addition to March and June complaints this year.
Schultz earned nearly $110,000 in 2019.
Activists have been calling on Mayor Byron Brown and Police Commissioner Byron Lockwood to resign.
$110k a year is not nearly enough to put your life on the line for perpetually victimized parasites who would gladly wack you in the back of the head with a baseball bat, or swipe your drink from an outdoor patio while demanding that you raise your fist.
