I’ve been driving past Two Forks Up for a few years. When I grew up in Getzville, it went by several different names. It has been named Dacc’s and the Getzville Grille. I never seemed to go past it when they were open though. Recently after a doctor’s appointment that took us until around noonish, I decided to abandon our regular route home and see if it was open. I’m glad we did.
As luck would have it, I finally caught them open. I anticipated tavern type foods, burgers, wings and sliders. When we entered, the Hostess/server/bartender, Bree, showed us to a butcher paper covered table, gave us our menus and took our drink order.
There were about 12 tables in this cozy little restaurant, but sometimes, like a diamond ring the best things come in small packages. Their diverse menu blew me away though. Not at all what I was expecting. They do have the previously mentioned tavern foods but the menu doesn’t just stop there.
Their menu features a little of everything including lobster that I was told arrives fresh from Maine, chicken, pasta, steaks, seafood, salads, wraps and lobster tacos. They also have an extensive number of specials.
They had six of the tables slid together and it seemed that we had crashed an eighty seven year old woman’s birthday party. Twelve ladies all of about the same age, moving the place cards so they could sit next to someone they wanted to only to have another woman come behind them and rearrange them to her liking. I could barely contain myself.
When it came time for them to order, she had to tell each person the available soup choices. Bree went to the second table and made a general announcement about the soup choices. I bet Donna $10.00 that she would have to repeat this at least twice more. I won by the fifth person. The lunch came with dinner theater! One nice thing was the leader of the pack invited us to have a piece of birthday cake with them. Unfortunately we had to head right home after lunch.
When Bree brought back our drinks we ordered. Donna ordered a king carb roll off the specials menu. This is fresh crab served on a buttered New England Style roll and served with their famous beer battered, Sidewinder Fries.
I was going to get a Ruben or Roast beef on Weck but decided to step out of my comfort zone and get the Salmon burger (13.50) that also came with Sidewinder Fries.
Donna’s crab roll took me back to Massachusetts where we used to get these 50 years ago. The surprising thing was that it was made with real crab, not that phony bologna crab replacement made out of white fish. We could tell this because of the texture and the fact she found a piece of crab membrane while she was eating. Her crab roll was delicious.
My Salmon burger was likewise very tasty. But the sidewinder fries were unlike anything I have ever had before. I was expecting regular square fries or curly fires. They had a crispy outside and a nicely cooked inside. I seldom bring fries home but these went into a Styrofoam take out container. They will make a nice addition to tonight’s dinner.
There are only two things I would change about Two Forks. The first would be a matter of personal taste. I like my salmon with a bit of stone ground mustard and second, because the restrooms are up a couple of steps from the main dining room, they need a hand rail or grab bar for those of us with mobility problems.
I go to a doctor once a month in Amherst and they are going to see a lot of me. The food was Delish. I give them 9 out of 10 spoons.
