Reed delivers $125k grant for Steuben County drug prevention program

Today, Rep. Tom Reed announced a $125,000 grant for the Steuben Prevention Coalition which will be used for drug and substance abuse education efforts in the area. The grant was announced by the Office of National Drug Control Policy.

“We care about making sure everyone has access to the information they need to combat drug and substance addiction,” said Tom. “We care about battling these issues in every helpful way possible. This grant will empower this program to reach more people and continue the program’s success.”

“We are extremely proud of our efforts to obtain this grant funding and to be able to continue the work we have been doing in Steuben County since 1991. This funding will allow the Steuben Prevention Coalition to continue to provide Drug Impairment Training to Education Professionals (DITEP), Training for Intervention Procedures (TIPS), our Annual Youth Action Forum providing leadership skills to our youth, administration of the Prevention Needs Assessment Survey and installation of Medical Disposal Drop Box projects just to name a few. The Coalition’s goals are to reduce alcohol and drug use by our youth, promote protective factors that reduce the risk of substance abuse, reduce factors that increase the risk of substance abuse, encourage community dialogue relating to alcohol and drug use and educate parents and our communities in Steuben County about what is “really going on” relating to teenage drug and alcohol use” said Colleen Banik, Prevention Coordinator for the Coalition.

The Steuben Prevention Coalition is comprised of volunteer professionals from education, faith-based, law enforcement, healthcare, business, substance abuse, youth serving agencies and various other community sectors who work to bring awareness of teen alcohol and substance abuse.
