In a widely circulated statement, New York Republican Party Chairman Nick Langworthy is telling Senator Kirstin Gillibrand to get back to work following her recently ended four-year pursuit of the presidency.
“Kirsten Gillibrand has been using her U.S. Senate office to chase her national ambitions for the last four years, while doing nothing for the New Yorkers who pay her salary,” Langworthy asserts. Her salary as a United States Senator is $174,000 per year.
Gillibrand has long branded herself as “Upstate New York’s Senator”, claiming that she resides at a property she owns along the Hudson River south of Albany, but rarely visits Western New York and has made little to no effort to build relationships with elected leaders here. Her grandparents were old-world political bosses in Albany since the days of Al Smith and FDR, but these days she doesn’t often travel the State west of the Hudson.
“It’s no surprise that voters–even in her home state–rejected her for her lackluster record,” Langworthy notes.
She is particularly unpopular in Western New York, having offered the region so little attention since her appointment by then-Governor David Patterson in 2009. Area voters often remark that she hasn’t worked very hard at being a good Senator for places like Buffalo, so why would Buffalonians believe she would care about us as President?
“Let’s hope de Blasio gets the same hint and they both start working on behalf of the people they’re supposed to represent, even though we are better off without either of them. The voters will hold them accountable for their neglect,” Langworthy promises.
Gillibrand has had trouble with Democratic primary voters following her call for Senator Al Franken, a fellow Democrat in her caucus, to resign following the release of a satirical picture that was perceived to have offended women. She also aggressively disparaged nominee for the United States Supreme Court, Brett Kavanaugh, which is widely thought to have damaged her credibility among male voters.
