Examining the times of Trump…

BY JOE GENCO

A Short Take on Today’s News:

–Examining the rise of white supremacy in the time of Trump. https://www.npr.org/…/what-the-ebbs-and-flows-of-the-kkk-ca…

–A notoriously finicky federal program which turned grants into loans if teachers working in low-income districts didn’t get paperwork perfect is being reformed to give the educators another chance. https://www.npr.org/…/exclusive-ed-department-to-erase-debt…

–More public details are emerging in the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, a journalist tricked into going to the Saudi embassy in Turkey, where he was murdered by associates ordered to carry out the hit by close allies of the Trump administration. Look away. https://www.cnn.com/…/jamal-khashoggi-last-words…/index.html

–Jerome Corsi, a Mueller investigation target accused of lying under oath, has filed a $350 million lawsuit against the Special Investigator, alleging illegal leaks. As a wise barrister once told me “it doesn’t cost anything to type zeroes.” https://www.politico.com/…/corsi-mueller-lawsuit-klayman-st…

–They can’t help themselves: Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made it above the fold on Fox News yet again today, this time in a column arguing increased reliability on renewable energy hurts the poor. https://www.foxnews.com/…/liz-peek-ocasio-cortez-backs-gree…

–Is “Baby it’s cold out outside” creepy or innocent? There are way too many creepy songs out there to get wound up over a Christmas classic or Rudolph being bullied. https://www.npr.org/…/baby-it-s-cold-outside-seen-as-sexist…

–Penny Lane Cafe rocks. It’s the food music and atmosphere. Do not let anyone know. Please keep it a secret. If everyone finds out, no one will go there anymore because it will be too crowded. https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/new-york/beatles-themed-ny/…

–First, it was Jim Lovegrove, a supremely talented plumber using his phone to better photograph and blow up the small print on a zone valve label in our basement high against the ceiling so he could read it. Then Perry Newton did it to get the paint code off a sticker on my Volkswagen. Phone cameras are tools.

–Cloudy today with a high of 0 (32) or just above. Much the same Tuesday with some snow. One of these days we need a Christmas tree.

Dave Ostrowski identified this lyric Sunday yesterday but hasn’t fit it into song. Yet. “When walking into a local sub shop yesterday, like many small businesses they had a sign posted on the door that said ‘help wanted, apply inside’, and I thought it could be a great metaphor for solving one’s own problems.” Wisdom is around us.

–Here’s to @pintotailgate Game No. 403. Shots from the bowling ball are nice. I don’t much care for the ketchup ritual.

–Boyd Curiosity: Those who tan the skins of fish say it takes 2 salmon to make a pair of shoes.

–Jackson Browne, Tiny Desk. I don’t know a reason. Life became a paradox. “Got to bring your own redemption when you come.” https://www.youtube.com/watch…

–So the Bills sort of sucked Sunday. I put a lot of it on special teams. For years, we have seen them keep extra player for that purpose alone and yet they don’t seem to be better. https://www.democratandchronicle.com/…/buffalo-…/2229590002/

–The Sabres met to talk about the Philly stinker. They have home games this week against LA and Arizona. https://www.nhl.com/…/sabres-practice-report-ky…/c-302760516

–Always nice to see the Patriots lose. https://bleacherreport.com/…/2809990-video-kenyan-drake-sco…
