A short take on today’s news

–Walked in and out of Colter Bay Grill last night. It was too crowded and noisy. Walked up the block on Allen Street to Giacobbi’s. Don’t let the spelling fool you. Great Italian food in funky, stitched together storefronts. Different ambiance, simpler menu than Carmine’s but delicious. As an added bonus, Alex Jacobbi was working as bartender.

–Read Rus Thompson on Facebook yesterday wondering where Nick Langworthy and Chris Collins were in Carl Paladino’s time of need. I think he has a point. When everyone is divided and no one ever has to apologize, it seems odd neither was front and center. At least Michael Caputo never wavered.

–A billboard preceded Dick Jauron’s firing. Think it can have any impact on Paladino? I don’t. http://www.wgrz.com/…/coming-soon-buffalo-billboa…/378492707

–Garry Kasparov explains why dictators hate chess and why Putin had his lackeys hack the DNC to benefit Trump. As for any megalomaniac, it’s all about power. http://www.slate.com/…/garry_kasparov_on_why_vladimir_putin…

–Frank Sinatra, in 1990, wrote a lovely letter to George Michael, essentially telling him to embrace his fame and talent and stop being such a whiny little bitch. http://www.theblaze.com/…/read-the-letter-frank-sinatra-se…/

–In early December, Scott Leffler from All WNY News tracked down and interviewed the artist who I linked to yesterday regarding the Larkin Administration building. http://www.allwnynews.com/…/to-larkin-with-love-from-spain.…

–A hungover Calgary man went to an empty Lethbridge fish and chips shop and wrote a Facebook review that has been shared 8,000 times and resulted in the shop being mobbed. http://www.cbc.ca/…/whitbies-fish-and-chips-lethbridge-1.37…

–Joy to the world, here is 2016s worst sportswriting according to the always arbitrary and snarky Deadspin. http://deadspin.com/the-worst-american-sportswriting-of-201…

–Here’s an ESPN writer beating up on Rex for being incompetent. http://www.espn.com/…/rex-ryans-explanations-fall-short-aft…

–Sal Capaccio’s arrow up/arrow down Bills post-mortem. For me, the fall still solidly rests on Rex Ryan’s shoulders. Steve Hamilton, a Jets fan, was right in condemning Rex from the outset. http://www.wgr550.com/CAPACCIO-Bills-Dolphins-Arro…/22971462

–Ace prospect Alex Nylander scored twice for team Sweden in the World Junior Championship. Is there somebody worth drafting for whom the Sabres decided to tank?
