Former State Senator Alfred T. Coppola, a longtime Delaware District Councilman and respected elder statesman of local politics, has endorsed Katrinna Martin-Bordeaux for Chairman of the Erie County Democrats. Coppola, who is expected to seek election to his 60th district senate seat, made the endorsement on social media this morning.
Martin-Bordeaux has energized opposition factions of the Democratic Party since launching Young Black Democrats of Western New York in 2013, the first organization of its type in the nation, upon returning to Buffalo from a long nursing career at Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco.
Coppola has a loyal base of supporters, particularly in North Buffalo and Tonawanda. He continues to enjoy considerable goodwill among county committeemen, who will vote for a new chairman at the party’s reorganization meeting in June.
Martin-Bordeaux is preparing a “package of reforms” to the State’s archaic election laws, which she intends to lobby for in Albany.
