Trump’s son starts promoting Paladino for Governor

Yesterday, Donald Trump’s son-in-law began promoting the rather remote prospect of Carl Paladino as a 2018 gubernatorial candidate in a publication that he owns and manages. Jared Kushner is the son of a wealthy New Jersey real estate developer. At age 25 with his father in prison, the younger Kushner purchased a majority stake in The New York Observer for $10 million. At the time, the publication was losing $2 million a year.

The price tag raised eyebrows, since The Observer’s print circulation is less than 50,000 copies, but The New York Times wrote at the time that “the paper’s relatively small circulation… belies its influence, particularly in New York’s media, political and real estate circles.”

At the time, Kushner’s father — Charles Kushner — was serving the remainder of a two year prison term after pleading guilty to 18 counts of tax evasion, witness tampering, and illegal campaign contributions.

Kushner pledged to stay out of the editorial process and focus on improving the paper’s bottom line. On October 25, 2009 he married Ivanka Trump at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, NJ. They since have had three children together.

Now, it seems The Observer is serving as a tool in Trump’s political arsenal — actively promoting Trump’s highest profile supporter for Governor of New York. Is Kushner simply doing his father-in-law a favor in promoting a buddy, or is he angling for a Goebbels-like position in a Trump administration?
